Quiet Moment at Terraka
This year we were not able to do painting on location in Jasper. However, we did drive through the town and survey the areas we once spent so much time at. My heart was saddened when we passed by Terraka Lodge; most of the cabins were gone and all the corners and quiet places I once painted at are no more…
When I went home, I looked up some of the pictures I took and painted one of my favourite places where I welcomed a lot of the mornings.
SPIRIT ISLAND
This Island is surrounded on 3 sides by the same mountain range, making it significant to the Stony Nakoda First Nation. It is a spiritual place for them; they believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors. The few trees on the island are like a miniature fortress on the rock – standing guard!
Remembering HORSESHOE LAKE
A friend of mine who lives in Jasper town told me that our favourite painting spots at Horseshoe Lake have been demolished by the fire. In my heart, I believe that nature will renew itself and life cycles will be rejuvenated, but it may not be within our lifetime (at least not my lifetime!) but we just have to trust that God will make everything beautiful, in His time.
